This job is going to be a 26-story apartment building next to the Amazon headquarters in South Lake Union. The project promotes walking, biking, ride share programs and transit use by limiting parking and by providing one bike parking space for every unit. We’re looking forward to working on this project and sharing our progress here over the next few months!
Seattle Mayor Ed Murray visited the Mercy Othello Plaza job site last week to celebrate the building of new affordable housing in South Seattle. Cruncher is placing the rebar for this project, and we’re very excited to be a part of it.
Murray lauded the project, saying that once complete, “residents will live in a diverse neighborhood steps away from open spaces, health services and transit options that connect them to jobs and educational opportunities throughout the city.” He noted the proximity to light-rail in particular as a form of reliable transportation for working class residents.
Bill Rumpf, Regional President of Mercy Housing Northwest, accompanied the mayor to the site. He stressed the importance of providing housing for families with children, pointing out that “most new construction happening now is small apartments.”
This project is part of the Seattle Housing Levy, and shows that the city leadership are taking steps to compensate for the influx of people to the greater Seattle area due to the booming tech and construction industry. We look forward to seeing how this project progresses.
